Eyup is one of the oldest Muslim neighborhoods of Istanbul centering around the Eyup Mosque built in the name of Prophet Mohammad’s flag carrier who fell during the Arab siege of the city in the 8th Century. Eyup is also famous throughout the ages with its toy shops. Simple, wooden toys painted in a myriad of colors given to young boys who were taken to the Eyup Mosque before their circumcision ceremony.
Now, Eyup toys are inspiring 7-8 year-old-kids at a workshop at Istanbul’s Bilgi University. Those who are running the workshop say they are getting amazing, creative results from the children who were born into a world of electronics.
